Client Spotlight: Henry of Pelham
Henry of Pelham is a family estate winery that pairs its rich farming tradition with a true passion for innovation. As one of Borderline’s longest-running clients, Henry of Pelham is changing what’s possible for Ontario’s grape and wine industry - and we’re honoured to support them as they do.
After six generations of operating on the original family farm, Henry of Pelham is built upon a legacy of being boldly different. Located in the Short Hills Bench of the Niagara Escarpment, the land was one of the first to grow grapes in Canada. The area’s gradual slopes, rich soil, and sun exposure provided ideal conditions for cultivating grapes.
In 1984, the family decided to replace the original concord grapes with old world vinifera grapes. This was long before Niagara’s wine industry was what it is now - a thriving, world-renowned industry known for unparalleled wines. Despite the doubters, the new crops were not only successful but put Henry of Pelham on the map for becoming a winery that makes premium wine from the grapes.
The winery now offers a beautiful range of products that include Baco Noir, Cabernet-Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, and ice wines. And did we mention the wines are award-winning?
Today, owners and brothers Paul, Matthew, and Daniel Speck continue to push the industry forward. Henry of Pelham is committed to sustainability, even if this means adopting new methods and practices in the process. It was the first to be certified by Local Food Plus as a sustainable and local vineyard in 2006. The winery’s efforts for a fully sustainable winemaking process have also been recognized by the Wine Council of Ontario. Their dedication to conservation efforts and reforestation is truly inspiring.
